Best Castles Sample Itinerary

A Warm Irish Welcome: Your friendly driver-guide will greet you at the airport and adapt the day’s itinerary to your arrival time for complete flexibility.
Castle Beginnings: Start your adventure at the elegant Clontarf Castle, just outside Dublin. Enjoy a full Irish breakfast, a hearty lunch, or evening supper – depending on when you arrive.
Dublin Highlights: Take a panoramic drive through Ireland’s vibrant capital, soaking up historic landmarks and city charm.
Scenic Detour: If you wish, journey through the Wicklow Mountains and visit the atmospheric monastic site of Glendalough.
First Castle Stay: Arrive at Kilkea Castle – one of Ireland’s oldest, dating back to the 12th century – and settle in for your first night in royal surroundings.

After a restful night at Kilkea Castle, your driver will collect you to begin a day rich in history and charm.
Your journey takes you to the medieval city of Kilkenny, where you can explore some of its gems:
Wander the “Medieval Mile” and visit the fascinating Medieval Mile Museum
Discover Saint Canice’s Cathedral and climb the iconic Round Tower for stunning views
Tour the majestic Kilkenny Castle and enjoy a peaceful stroll through its beautiful park
Or experience the famous Smithwick’s Brewery for a taste of Ireland’s brewing heritage
Don’t forget to visit the Kilkenny Design Centre, perfect for unique Irish gifts and crafts, located right opposite the castle.
For lunch, soak up the atmosphere at Kyteler’s Inn, a historic pub dating back to 1324, known for great food, music, and stories.
In the afternoon, journey to the Viking city of Waterford, where you’ll check into the enchanting Waterford Castle. This stunning castle sits on a private 310-acre island and is reached by a charming car ferry crossing the King’s Channel.
Overnight: Waterford Castle

After crossing back to the mainland, we’ll head to the iconic Rock of Cashel. Perched high on a hill, this historic site boasts a stunning round tower, ancient cathedral, and a Celtic high cross — perfect for memorable photos and soaking up centuries of history.
Next, we journey into Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands to King John’s Castle in Limerick. This 15th-century fortress sits proudly on the banks of the River Shannon, where you can enjoy interactive medieval activities in the castle’s courtyard.
Just an hour from Limerick City, we’ll arrive at your next home for the night — the elegant Dromoland Castle, one of Ireland’s finest castle hotels.
Overnight: Dromoland Castle

Today is all about you. Feel like indulging in the castle’s luxurious amenities? Perhaps enjoy a classic afternoon tea, a peaceful stroll through the gardens, or even a round of golf. Just contact the castle staff in advance to pre-book your favourite activities.
If adventure calls, there’s still plenty to see! Choose a scenic coastal drive along the Wild Atlantic Way, passing through the unique Burren landscape to the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher. Along the way, stop for photos at Dunguaire Castle and maybe visit the ancient Poulnabrone Dolmen.
For history lovers, a visit to the authentic Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is a fantastic option — explore the 15th-century castle and the lively folk park nearby.
Lunch can be savoured in charming Doolin if you’re on the Cliffs route, or at the famous Durty Nellies Tavern near Bunratty Castle.
Afterwards, return to Dromoland Castle to unwind and enjoy its exceptional facilities.
Overnight: Dromoland Castle

This morning, say your goodbyes to the warm staff at Dromoland Castle as your driver picks you up for the next chapter of your journey. Your first stop: the vibrant city of Galway, perfect for picking up unique Irish gifts and souvenirs.
Explore Galway at your own pace — perhaps a city tour, a visit to the stunning Galway Cathedral, or a leisurely walk along the scenic Salthill promenade. Enjoy lunch in the city before heading westward into the breathtaking landscape of Connemara.
On the drive, take in the rugged mountains, tranquil lakes, and of course, the iconic Irish sheep — often found leisurely crossing the road! Movie buffs will appreciate a photo stop at the famous filming location of The Quiet Man.
Finally, arrive at Ashford Castle, where an early check-in is recommended. This stunning castle hotel promises to be the unforgettable highlight of your tour.
Overnight: Ashford Castle

After a leisurely breakfast, your driver will pick you up from Ashford Castle. Starting from the charming village of Cong, your day is flexible and tailored to your group’s interests and pace.
Your guide will recommend some of Connemara’s top highlights, such as:
The stunning Killary Fjord, Ireland’s only fjord
Quaint fishing villages like Roundstone and Clifden
An authentic sheepdog demonstration
The majestic Kylemore Abbey and its walled gardens
A scenic hike up Diamond Hill
On the way back to Ashford Castle, you can stop by the iconic closing scene location from The Quiet Man.
For the evening, consider indulging in the castle’s special offerings: lake cruises, fishing, spa treatments, afternoon tea, or the renowned falconry experience. We recommend pre-booking these activities with the castle staff.
Overnight: Ashford Castle

This morning, say your warm goodbyes to the wonderful staff at Ashford Castle. Before you depart, take a peaceful last stroll through the beautiful castle grounds and don’t miss a chance to meet the resident Irish wolfhounds — true symbols of Ireland’s heritage.
From here, we’ll transfer you to Dublin Airport or to your chosen hotel in Dublin, whatever suits your plans.
If time allows, we can enrich your journey with a stop at Athlone Castle, a captivating piece of Irish history. And for those still craving castles, a delightful lunch stop at Tyrell’s Pass awaits — an authentic medieval castle and tower house offering a truly memorable Irish experience.

Our tours start on any day of the week, whenever it suits you best, subject to availability. Get in touch with your travel dates and we will check availability for you. Tours between May and September sell out quickly, so booking early is advised.
How many people can participate in the tour?
We organise tours for any group size. Larger groups may incur a surcharge, please contact us to enquire about specific rates.
Can we book accommodation through you?
Yes – and we highly recommend you ‘let us do the heavy-lifting’. With years of experience and strong relationships across Ireland, we know which hotels offer the best service, comfort, and value in every region. We focus on places that go beyond just a bed for the night – somewhere you can truly relax after a day of touring.
We’re happy to work within your budget and style, and we often secure perks like upgrades or better rates you won’t get by booking direct.
Prefer to book your own? No problem – we’ll gladly offer guidance and ensure everything fits smoothly into your itinerary.
How long is an average day of touring?
Usually groups are picked up at 9.00 in the morning and will then enjoy touring until around 17.30 but this depends entirely on the clients’ preferences. A longer touring day can easily be compensated by a shorter one the day after, providing you with a flexible touring experience.
